Japanese Language Course in Komaba Research Campus

For those who will study Japanese along with their research activities, the Center for the Japanese Language Education provides Japanese courses in Komaba Research Campus.
Two courses are held in a year; Summer (from April to July) and Winter (from October to January)
. 

ACCEPTING SOME STUDENTS/RESEARCHERS
FOR THE WINTER COURSE 2019

- Only international students and foreign researchers are eligible.

-Only Level 1 and Level 2 are open for this registration.  

- Registration will be confirmed after the interview with a lecturer.

- This application is not available for absolute beginners since it's already been halfway through the course. Level 1 applicants are required to be able to read Hiragana and understand basic Japanese (noun sentences, verb sentences, etc).

Classes

Class Description
Level 1
(Elementary)
To study and practice sentence patterns and vocabulary of a lower elementary level starting from hiragana characters.
Level 2
(Upper-Elementary)
To study and practice sentence patterns and vocabulary of the upper elementary level.
Level pre3
(Elementary to Intermediate)
To enhance overall Japanese, including listening and reading comprehension and kanji for learners who have finished elementary textbooks.

2019 Winter Course Information

Each class meets three times a week, 100 minutes each time
【Level pre3 will not be offered in 2019 Winter Course.】

How to Apply

1) Take Japanese Proficiency Level Check Test to decide class level and prepare
  the necessary documents listed below.
2) Come to register at International Relations Section, IIS (#Cw-204) with the
  application documents during the application period.
  You will be requested to fill out the online application form.

Necessary Documents for Application
●All applicants
(1) 2 copies of photo (4×3cm)
(2) ID card or Certificate of Enrollment issued by UTokyo
* In addition to the above, foreign researchers and spouses must submit the following documents.

Spouses Only
・ A document that can prove the relationship with the spouse
  (e.g. Marriage certificate, etc)
* For (2) mentioned above, submit a copy of the applicant's spouse's ID card or Certificate of Enrollment issued by UTokyo.

Note
・ Applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis until the class becomes full.
・ No application will be accepted after the application period.
・ No application via e-mail will be accepted. If you are out of campus during the application period, a representative in your lab can apply for you. Please provide him/her with all the information required to complete the online application (see Appendix) as well as the necessary documents.
・  If your supervisor will not be available during the application period, please try to obtain Letter of Request in advance. If this is not possible, with your supervisor’s permission, you may submit a letter from a substitute professor (this must be a member of the teaching staff, and not a secretary or member of the office staff).

・ The Center for Japanese Language Education also provides several courses at Hongo Campus (5th floor, Administration Bureau Building 2). Please click here for more information.
